Fireman's Day
The Garner Volunteer Fire/Rescue Department operates from a fire district tax. Many years ago we relied on fundraisers and donations to perform our duties and we are grateful that that is no longer our source of operational income; however as the fire service is rooted deep in tradition we still maintain our annual Fireman’s Day. This event opens our doors of the fire department to the community for life safety education, games and activities for kids, home cooked BBQ, and good ole community fellowship. We do accept donations and raise money through a raffle and BBQ sales during this annual event. This money is used in many different ways that we would like to share with you.
We use the money raised on Fireman’s Day to provide a meal once a month to the volunteers who help run this organization. We donate portions of the money back in the Garner community to people and other organization in need like Relay for Life, Garner area school programs, and families in the fire service in financial trouble. Our primary focus of the money raised during Fireman’s Day goes to the Jaycee Burn Center in Chapel Hill. This is something we have been apart of for many years now and we take great pride in providing all patients in the burn unit during Christmas with a visit from us bearing gifts for all. For some, it is the only gifts they will receive. All this is only possible with your help and support. We look forward to seeing you the 1st Saturday in October.
Thank you!
